๐Ÿ† Tournament Highlights

The Veolia Bristol Open (August 6-10) marked the triumphant return of the Carvana PPA Tour after a summer dominated by Major League Pickleball events. Over 1,000 players descended on the Bristol Sportsplex in Tennessee for the tour's 12th event of 2025, with competition spanning singles, mixed doubles, and gender doubles across all skill divisions.

Notable storylines included Anna Bright's decision to add singles to her tournament schedule, while Anna Leigh Waters strategically opted out of singles to focus on doubles play. The tournament also welcomed back several top pros who hadn't participated in MLP events, including Mary and Maggie Brascia, Matt Wright, Lucy Kovalova, and Julian Arnold.

Meanwhile, the 2025 New Hampshire Senior Games (August 7-10) showcased the sport's incredible appeal across age groups, with up to 350 players competing across 24 courts at Pinkerton Academy. The USA Pickleball sanctioned event featured comprehensive round-robin formats in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles divisions.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Industry & Business News

The biggest industry bombshell dropped on August 6th when the Carvana PPA Tour announced a revolutionary partnership with PlaySight, enabling live streaming of up to 45 courts at each PPA event! This technological leap will provide thousands of hours of live and on-demand coverage through the PPA Streamed Courts YouTube channel, complete with live scoring overlays and player identification.

Equipment news also made waves as the LT Pro 48 Pickleball officially became the Carvana PPA Tour's official ball. Designed by Life Time's engineering team to address bounce consistency and durability concerns, the ball features symmetrically spaced holes and chamfered edges to reduce cracking. Life Time's massive pickleball presence - with 800+ courts and 3.1 million participants in just the first half of 2025 - underscores their commitment to the sport.

The company reported that member playing frequency has skyrocketed from 3.8 times per month in 2023 to an impressive 6.8 times per month in 2025, with 26,000 lessons delivered in the first six months alone. Tennis legend Andre Agassi's appointment as inaugural chair of the Life Time Pickleball and Tennis Board adds even more star power to their expanding program.

๐ŸŒ Global Pickleball Growth

International expansion took center stage with the announcement of PPA Asia and MLP Asia launches planned for the second half of 2025. Under the United Pickleball Association umbrella, these initiatives represent the sport's most significant international expansion to date.

Kimberly Koh, UPA Asia managing director, highlighted Asia's potential due to its massive population and excellence in racket sports. The UPA Asia Trailblazers Programme will provide selected Asian players with world-class training, mentorship from US professionals, and opportunities to compete in PPA Tour and MLP events. Discussions are ongoing with Singapore, China, Vietnam, and Malaysia as potential host countries.

Closer to home, Utah solidified its position as the nation's second most pickleball-obsessed state (behind Vermont), with 157 venues serving 4.5 facilities per 100,000 residents. The state recorded an astounding 737,000 pickleball-related Google searches in 2024 - the highest per capita in the nation!

โš–๏ธ Rules & Regulations

The USA Pickleball National Championships opened priority registration on August 11th for Golden Ticket holders and 70+ age division players. All registrants must maintain current USA Pickleball Champion or Challenger level memberships valid through November 24, 2025.

New requirements include mandatory UTR Pickleball profiles for all participants, reflecting the sport's adoption of standardized rating systems. Golden Ticket winners have flexibility in partner selection and can adjust skill or age divisions within their registration window. The final withdrawal date for refunds (minus a $30 fee) is October 26, 2025.

๐ŸŽฏ Player Spotlight

The pickleball community celebrated as the 2025 Hall of Fame inductees were announced on August 11th! Competitors Cammy MacGregor and Chris "Mills" Miller, along with contributor Melissa McCurley, will be honored during ceremonies November 5-6 in Surprise, Arizona.

Selection committee chairperson Fran Myer praised the inductees for their "exceptional results throughout their pickleball career" and "extraordinary contributions to the growth, development, and leadership of the game." The diverse backgrounds of this year's class - including an early pioneer, a former tennis pro, and a former Navy Hospital Corpsman - demonstrate the many paths to pickleball excellence.
